Using the very latest tech to ensure birds live long healthy lives
Birds are more than able to self-regulate their own exposure to energy rich illumination, they have developed to do so in the wild over an expanse of time.
As keepers, we want our birds to live a long and productive life, bird lighting which includes UV-B can help to ensure this.
UV rays do not travel very far from source. As light (energy) travels is spreads out to cover a wider area. As such, the total power is shared over this area and the available quantity of measurable energy decreases.
Most species of pet bird will need to be sitting on the basking perch at a distance of 8-12”/20-30cm between the lamp and their heads. If they are further than this distance, then the quantity of energy within UV available to them will have decreased. If they are closer than this, then they are closer to source and the energy is higher.
